Fire Falls presents the aftermath of a medieval conflict. A dragon was able to escape a battle, only to crash on the grounds of the Norman Rockwell Museum and succumbed to the volley of arrows that peppered its hide. The viewer will consider if a monster was slain or if a misunderstood species was destroyed.
The dragon is one of the most iconic mythical creatures. Dragons transcend time and cultures. They will continue to be the subjects of dreams and nightmares for as long as stories are told. It is my hope that this sculpture will continue this tradition and spark the imaginations of the Rockwell Museums patrons during the Land of Enchantment exhibition.
Fire Falls will be on view at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA from July 10, 2021 through October 31, 2021. This outdoor sculpture exhibit is in conjunction with the interior exhibit “Enchanted: A History of Fantasy Illustration”, which features the many masters of illustration.
